imageIt makes me calmer just LOOKING at it! The “Dad’s Trike” project becomes the “Dad’s BIKE” project, and the 18 amp BBS02 finds a new home in the ergonomic Electra Townie. A nice handling bike with dual Sturmey Archer drum brakes and 48V/10ah Ping battery in the back. Geared to max out at 20mph, Dad has plenty of torque zipping around the local greenway path.

The two biggest bicycle maintenance/repair schools in the US are United Bicycle Institute in Oregon and Barnett’s Bicycle Institute in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I took the week long “Maintenance and Assembly” class at Barnett’s and couldn’t have been happier. I hope to take their 2-week class at some point. If you like bikes, and can afford it, GO!

Full suspension BBS02 commuter with custom underhung Samsung rectangle pack (sandwiched between aluminum plates). Rear gear cluster would later be replaced by a White Industries Eno single speed freewheel. This was my daily rider for some time.

For a fun historical read try electricbike.com's "The Strange Saga of Tidalforce". I was told by someone involved with the project that it's "mostly" true. I can tell you this much: at 44V, this nearly 20lb motor will push you up to 28mph smoothly, silently and remain at near ambient temperature all day long. That front black hub is the stock battery that anyone owning one of these should quickly replace in favor of any common 36v-44v pack.
