BEAUTIFUL day for a 14mile trip up the local river trail & back! Pedals are nice for standing on and helping get up a hill now & then, but this ride was mostly the work of the 15 pounds of copper mass in the direct drive Tidalforce motor. Kept it out of turbo mode, as 20mph is just fine (and legal) for this California bike path. After a trip to lunch and the grocery store afterwards, I had used about 13ah of the 20ah A123 pack. The frame is a steel EV Global, brought to market by auto icon Lee Iacocca in the heyday of ebikes.

It makes me calmer just LOOKING at it! The “Dad’s Trike” project becomes the “Dad’s BIKE” project, and the 18 amp BBS02 finds a new home in the ergonomic Electra Townie. A nice handling bike with dual Sturmey Archer drum brakes and 48V/10ah Ping battery in the back. Geared to max out at 20mph, Dad has plenty of torque zipping around the local greenway path.
This was an expensive lesson… Sorta kinda stable delta trike, with an overpowered BBS02 mid drive and days of trying to make a drum brake hub work as a jackshaft. This was his one and only test ride before the project was abandoned for a 2 wheeler (see blue Townie).
